The sticks of this fan are made of bamboo and are unpainted. The fabric is a lovely warm white silk taffeta, the paper is a high quality Chinese mulberry rice paper. The fabric and paper are bonded to the sticks using a specialty acid-free archival glue that will not stain, turn yellow, or deteriorate the fabric/paper ever.
This is a delicate item that should be treated with care. It should not get wet, be exposed to excessive heat or sun, or have excessive pressure applied (like sitting on it). The fabric has been treated to contain the ink, so the ink will not wipe or wash off, but the fabric and paper are not waterproof, and any liquid can cause staining. Excessive liquid exposure can cause deterioration of the paper, and/or separation from the sticks.
